First Church Built by the United Empire Loyalists

I was challenged by Gerasimos Georg, @gerry13, to take architectural photos. While this is a simple building, it is very historic and a good example of what people will do until they can build more elaborate churches, homes, and schools.

This is a replica of the first church built by the United Empire Loyalists when they arrived in 1784. Built on the exact site beside the Raisin River, this log church, like the original, stands 20' by 24'.

A stone marker that leads to the grounds reads:

In this peaceful place of rest lie the pioneer settlers of this parish; among whom known to fame are John Sandfield MacDonald, first Prime Minister of this Province and Simon Fraser, the explorer of the Fraser River. As a tribute to their memory this burial ground was restored by the Provincial Government of Ontario in the year 1938.

Thank you so much for this challenge, Gerry! I am really enjoying my explorations through my area. Hope you are not getting sick of these shots!

Love the summertime feel to this photo. The angle of the building is nicely captured with just a hint of lighting difference on the two sides.
