Family Skate on the Rideau Canal by farmreporter

Family Skate on the Rideau Canal

The cleared length is 7.8 kilometres (4.8 mi) and has the equivalent surface area of 90 Olympic ice hockey rinks. While another Canadian city, Winnipeg, Manitoba, achieved the record of the world's longest skating rink at a length of 8.54 kilometres but with a width of only 2 to 3 metres wide on its Assiniboine River and Red River at The Forks. In response, the Rideau Canal was rebranded as "the world's largest skating rink". The Rideau Canal Skateway was added to the Guinness Book of World Records in 2005 for being the largest naturally frozen ice rink in the world.
This photo was taken at the Dow’s Lake end of the canal, and not the more picturesque downtown area that has the Parliament Buildings in the background.
Well, Margo, @s4sayer I finally got out to do some shots with real people doing things that people do!
Hope you like it! So nice to get to the city once in a while!

@paul10 You can rent these sleds along with skates at the Canal. It also has food vendors all along the length of it. A great place for families.
