Dale Nichols Inspiration - Please do not comment, for info only

Vera @vera365 challenge to me was inspired by my profile picture which is a rendition of the famous painting, American Gothic by Grant Woods. She challenged me to take another artist who is famous for his/her artworks featuring farms and farmland and recreate one of his/her images in a photo. Please provide the link to the picture in your post.

(I chose to upload an example of his work rather than the link)

I chose to do Dale Nichols, one of the artists she recommended. Dale Nichols was an American artist who is best known for his work as a rural landscape painter. Nichols' work is often classified with that of other regional American landscape artists, including Grant Wood and Thomas Hart Benton.

In 1939 Nichols' was featured in Time Magazine. Said one Time reviewer in that issue, "Subjects he prefers are the prairie landscapes of his youth, usually snowed under. “

I found that the majority of the architectural features in his work were viewed from below, putting them high on a hill and as almost a silhouette against the horizon. He chose muted, natural colours with barns painted the traditional red.

Okay - this example is a house rather than a barn but he also shows any of his barns high on a hill. He grew up on the American prairies, which influences his choice of astere settings void of trees, which I found hard to replicate here in Glengarry.
But, on the positive side - my photo is taken at the right angle, and I managed to replicate the dull sky shown here.

Here is my interpretation of this painting:

This artist reminds me a bit of Andrew Wyeth'. His work was stark in a good way, just like this!

@henrir This is not my photo - it is the artist I was trying to replicate in my barn photo.
Thanks for stopping by and commenting - check out the link above for my photo and tell me what you think!
