January Words- Fauna

Fauna is defined as animal life of a region or geological age.
So - here is one of thousands of turkeys that wander Glengarry.
This one just happened to be wandering down the same road and going in the same direction as I was. So I stopped, rolled down my window, and snapped his picture before heading on my way again!
wow that head, I'm amazed at how many differences there are in turkeys the world around

What an amazing bird - he doesn't seem to have a beak large enough to take in sufficent food to maintain his very plump body. Do people eat them?

@robz
We have neighbours that hunt them every year and they give us some all the time.
These turkeys have all dark meat - very tasty and fairly dry. Not a lot of fat on them/
They do have a bit of a 'wild' taste to them since they eat a lot of wild berries and such. But then - they also eat a lot of corn that is grown around here!

Thanks for the info Wendy - sounds like your area is very neighbourly like our community in Stanthorpe. The loan of the pig trap is tied to a deal that he gets any pigs that we catch.. :)
P.S. I had to laugh at the bit about how the turkeys eat a lot of corn! Cheers Rob

A lovely close up of the turkey. His tootsies must be getting cold.
