"And you're the kind of girl I like..."

"Because you're empty...
And I'm empty..."

Quoting from a song. I don't think or feel that I'm an empty person. Though I'd rather be empty than full of shit. Some people don't always like what I say or how I say but at least I'm not full of it.

The dates 5/13 & 5/14 have been landmark dates in my life. I graduated both college and grad school on those dates, albeit years apart. Also my senior prom was on 5/13/94 - Friday, the 13th. Lol. Twenty years ago on this date. Can't believe it...

I loved high school. It was so much fun -- had my group of friends, achieved academically, had ideas of going to art school (which I later abandoned after my senior year studio art class went to see the Matisse Exhibit at MOMA and it inspired me and scared me at the same time.).

Anyway, prom season came around and it was just kind of a hot mess. My girl friends and I were not with the boys we wanted to be with. Everyone was liking someone else's man.

Now I have never ever in my life asked a man out or made the first move. I'm just stubborn and won't do it. Haven't ever. Even in high school, which when you go to an all-girl high school...you kinda have to ask the boy if you wanna go to your own prom.

As it turned out, a good guy friend of mine actually asked me to my own prom. LMAO. I dunno how I worked that one out. Rumor kinda had it that he might've liked me since sophomore year. But our senior year, he took me to my prom. He even had a girlfriend at the time. She knew he was taking me. Didn't like it but...oh well.

I remember my dress. I chose it carefully. Most of my peers chose dresses to accentuate their bust lines. Well I didn't have much in the boob department. In fact at 37, am still kinda waiting for the boobs to grow in. Lol. I've been known more to have a better ass than chest. I'm pretty much exactly the same size since I've been 17. Anyway, since all the girls chose plunging necklines, I decided to be different and wear a backless dress.

I remember my date liking my dress. And one of the girls from my school remarked, "Whoa that's a pretty sexy dress you got there."

I think the that was the first time I ever had the word sexy and me said in the same sentence together. It was a weird and new feeling. Intimidating but exciting. I dunno. Not making any sense.

I remember that night my date gave me a nice card and told me he loved me. 😳 I couldn't handle it. In high school I don't think I could handle liking any boy that was too into me. Ha. Perhaps I had intimacy issues even then.

ANYWAY. Was thinking about prom today and all those young people finishing high school and going to college. What a great time... But I wouldn't want to go back.

Typing this from my phone as I finish the commute into Manhattan. Pic taken the other night before going out with the girls. I wish my hair always looked that good.

Happy Tuesday!
What an amazing epistle, by the time I read it all I had to scroll back up to see the image. Awesome hair for sure but better than that is that you wrote all that on a phone !! I have trouble betting a number entered correctly. Fan-bloody-tastic girl !!

@tonydebont "fan-bloody-tastic"! I like that! Thanks. I do a lot of 365-in from my phone. Half of my project last year was done while in transit, coming to or from NYC.

@paulty thanks for your kind words, Paul! :)

@je77rey thank you :) it was taken with my phone and I was pleased with it despite the poor quality.

@04haze haha thanks for reading it. I tend to ramble here mostly for my own amusement...

Ms. T, I have viewed many of your photos. I have read many of what you have written about your photos. Never did the thought that you are an empty woman. On the contrary, I feel that your photography and words show the exact opposite. Intelligence, confidence, beauty, and a willingness to push the envelope. When you do push the envelope you do it with class, style and emotion. "I'm not saying anything, I'm just saying" Keep doing what you do! Great shot!

@thirdjoe Really appreciate your comment, Joe. Whenever anyone reads or looks at whatever I post, I consider that a gift...whether they make it known to me or not. So thank you for your thoughtful response. It's exchanges like this that kind of makes it hard to leave this place. :)

Tom
Another really good selfiel with an accompany story of past joys and laments, merged into the present; showing that time is not linear but forever now. I would have loved to have seen you, and see you in that backless dress.. so right!

This is a great shot of you. Great hair!! Love it. My senior prom sucked...royally. Broke up with my date a few days before. Still went together and didn't even dance once with each other. Guy I wanted to go with was with one of my best friend and ended up hooking up with someone else (him not me). I went when I was a sophomore with a senior and had a blast...but then I got grounded for some long time and couldn't see him again. Ugh. Nope, wouldn't go back to HS, but would do college over again...in a heartbeat! Are you having a 20 year reunion this year? I am, but am probably not going, but want to a little. Too bad FL is so far away.

@amandal thanks, Amanda! I loved high school and could do it again if I had to. College too was a blast but I love my life the way it is now and wouldn't go back for anything. My 20-year reunion is happening this year too. I probably won't go as I am still in contact with most of the friends I had in high school and I don't really see the need to go. My class was a very small class...went to a private boarding school (I was a day student though) so there aren't or weren't many people to lose contact with. I still can't believe it's been 20 years!

@fauxtography365 I know. Oh and about not being the one to make a move...I was the one to first talk to Mike, my hubby. I went up to him at the club. I had known of him years earlier...had a crush on him when I was 12-14 and recognized him. My line was: "Why aren't you dancing?!" He was standing on the sidelines drinking a water and I liked that. We talked the rest of the night.
