No need to comment, a quick shot taken on my phone this afternoon and using as a filler.
A few weeks ago I found a 1959 Mir rangefinder camera on the internet and spent the afternoon playing with my first roll of my film. Haven't got much idea of what I'm doing, know I left the lens cap on in error for at least three of the shots ...
Bought it out of sentiment as my Dad used to have a Zorki 4K many years ago. He also had a Ford Anglia but I won't be getting one of those:)
It's a great picture with so much to see...I'm originally a gal from the waterkaant (Hamburg, Germany) and like to be near the water.
Thank you so much for favouring my sunset and grey heron picture. so nice of you.
Haha, had to chuckle at the Ford Anglia :) Hope you manage to suss the new old camera. This is a lovely shot. I would quite like to live in one of those pretty houses!
This is a great beach/seaside shot FB, I like it a great deal. Don't know anything about the camera but I do remember the Ford Anglia and your decision is very sound. Wouldn't pull the skin off a rice-pudding.
A Ford Anglia! My oldest friends had one of those - only recently gone. Memories. Smiled at your lens cap incident! Done that myself. Nice beached shot here.
I love your harbour shots - the beached boat ones always make me smile. This is a beauty. Just out of interest - what will your new/old camera do. The term "rangefinder" used to be used by my Dad all the time - but it was something to do with measuring distances to objects.....
@robz This particular rangefinder has a little yellow square (rangefinder window) that has to be lined up level with the subject with no overlapping bits. There's a diopter lever on the side you can zoom in a little bit if you wear glasses. The viewfinder is to the left of the rangefinder window so what you 'see' in close ups isn't always quite what you end up with - bit of trial and error here. You do need to take lens cap off before firing shutter (I keep forgetting that bit). Think the rangefinder bit (yellow square) brings everything into sharp focus of you align it properly but you then have to get your exposure and shutter speed right. Must confess I'm winging it here using it like a point and shoot and Sunny 16 rule! Will be crushed if no photos come out next week!
This is awesome - I can see why it's called a rangefinder. It's basically doing the same thing for you re the distance. It sounds like a wonderful vintage item - and especially for it to be in working order. Such lucky find. Googled the Sunny 16 rule - so much interesting stuff to learn! It will be so exciting for you to wait for the film to come back - just like old times. Thanks for the info - do you think you will show us one if you get some good results? Cheers Rob :)
