This Victorian lighthouse stands on the cliffs at St Margaret's Bay overlooking the English Channel. It was constructed to guide ships past the infamous Goodwin Sands, the site of many a shipwreck; it was the first lighthouse powered by electricity; and the site of the first international radio transmission. Another lighthouse stood on the same site since at least 1730 and during most of this time it has been manned by the Knott family of lighthouse keepers.
@jacqbb No, I was lucky here. The ground slopes away from the lighthouse quite sharply before reaching the cliff edge so I just had to walk a short way towards the sea:)
@fbailey you should have noticed a slight darkening of your thoughts followed by a yearning for chocolate - I'll have to do something about that when we come back in October ;)
Great b&w
