A mock sun (rhs) observed looking towards Folkestone this evening.
"As the crystals sink through the air they become vertically aligned, refracting the sunlight horizontally so that sundogs are observed ... bright spots in the sky caused by the refraction of sunlight off tiny ice crystals in the atmosphere"
@johnsutton@cmsch52 Thanks very much, I tried to take a picture of one to the lhs of the sun about an hour earlier and failed miserably so was delighted to get a second chance.
