@allred Hi! Apparently a chap called Guy Fawkes and several other co-consipirators tried to blow up parliament in London on November 5th 1605. They were caught in the act and many of them were tried and executed, including Guy Fawkes, who was burnt at the stake. Some say it was all a set-up but nevertheless on 5th November we have bonfire parties, including fireworks and sometimes they even have a scarecrow-like guy on the top of the bonfire!! (uck) I think it's become an excuse for a get-together and as it comes just after the clocks go back it makes the dark cold nights a little more tolerable before we get started for Christmas! Some bonfire parties are enormous and spectacular - this one was cosy in my neighbour's back garden!
@allred PS You might have heard the rhyme... "Remember remember the 5th of November, Gunpowder treason and plot.." ? Can't think of any reason why you should have! :)
