My festive friends hold special memories for me of my job working with young children. Snowman danced and flew like in the book by Raymond Briggs: The Gingerbread Man was my favourite traditional story and we often made his edible cousins and acted out the story: Santa Penguin was a gift from a little boy who was convinced I needed that and not a box of chocolates: the smallest penguin was a gift from my girls.
I look like loosing the Snowman and Gingerbread Man to my grandchildren. Evelyn has not let the snowman out of her sight since she arrived.Oliver has a love of the story of the Gingerbread Man and we usually bake some each visit.
Its as well I took this photo as they might not be in a group again for a while.
A lovely picture of the festive friends. you just have to make sure they all come back next Christmas. what fun having the grandchildren around. enjoy them, they grow up too fast.
ours are all grown up.
Tis the season for giving and if you gift your friends to the grand children you know they will be loved. I think I would frame this in a cheerful holiday frame as a keepsake and use it as part of my Christmas decorations. That way the children can enjoy your lovely treasures and you will always have the last photo of them all together. The memories live on.... Beautiful capture of treasured friends.
Haha, my mother was cleaning out the book cupboard some time ago... And I didn't allow her to remove the snowman book by Raymond Briggs... I claimed it... I could never let it go!!! :) To many beautiful memories!!! :)
@bruni Thanks Bruni. To be honest, I don't mind them keeping the Snowman and the Gingerbread Man but the Santa Penguin memories are very special so he stays with me. katharine
@jrstanier Thanks John. I don't think there is much chance of me keeping either the Snowman or the Gingerbread man, but they will be going to a good home. katharine
@zenna Thanks for the great idea Gayanne. I think I will have to keep the penguin, especially as their daddy brought them one each from his time on the Falkland Islands. katharine
@fishers I joined this group shortly after I would have been back to school as a celebration of being retired. I loved teaching, but it was time to do my own thing and I couldn't be happier! Happy Retirement to you too, Katharine!
ours are all grown up.
