This is the Akeler Sundial, created by Edwin Russell, and located in the May Balfour Garden, which is close to the library on Institute Road, Marlow. It was installed in 2002.
The May Balfour Garden is a small ornamental walled garden. It is a quiet place, often used by workers for their lunch break.
I thoroughly enjoyed my first visit to Marlow. It has some beautiful buildings and many unusual features, and there are a lot of interesting looking walks in the area, so I'm sure I will be visiting again when I get chance.
A good shot - it looks a great sculpture - can I just see some extra decoration set into the back of it (on the left of the photo)? By the shadow, was the time around 3.45pm?
Thank you Molly - the upright bars mark the hours and the shadow to show the time is created by the two curved points. Interestingly, this sundial is calibrated for BST - it was around 2:55 when I took the shot but the sundial shows 3:55.
Thank you Dianne - the sundial is calibrated for BST (British summer time) and we are still on GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) for the winter months, so the sundial shows the time as an hour later than it actually is.
Thank you Ferry - I was only in Marlow for one day. Louise lives near High Wycombe, and I've had days out when she has been working, so there will be shots from Thame and Henley on Thames in a few days.
Thank you so much for you nice comment and the fav.
