To mark the centenary of the start of the First World War, ceramic artist Paul Cummins has created this installation in the dry moat around the Tower of London. Currently there are around 140,000 poppies in the moat, but it is still a work in progress. It is due to be finished on 11th November, when there will be 888,246 poppies - one for each British or colonial military fatality during the war.
The name of this art came from the will of a Derbyshire man who died in Flanders. He knew that everyone was dead, and so wrote 'bloodswept lands and seas of red, where angels fear to tread'.
It's a very impressive visual feat, and will be even more so in November. Hopefully we'll be able to provide another picture then. - Lucy
Lucy - this is wonderful and very moving; I can't wait to see it again in November with 888,246 poppies... and what a shameful figure that is. A Fav for me.
Love the see the final result.
