The display of flowers in this shot is part of a new memorial garden created earlier this year in the Homestead Park here in York.
The garden was created to commemorate the centenary of the First World War, hence the presence of poppies in the display.
More formal flower beds use flower colours to create the flags of the nations involved, and there is a centrepiece of sandbags and a wooden wagon wheel.
There are also banners with war poems and information about the war.
To me it seems a very fitting reminder of the terrible events of 100 years ago.
Amazing that this meadow still looks so summery - when I saw this shot I thought it had been taken a month or two ago. More and more of these kinds of wildflower gardens seem to have appeared this year - I love them!
I'm glad that there are places like this that keep the memory of those horrific events alive - but this replica of Flanders Fields says it best for me.
Thanks for you comment on my ``Klapbrug`` pic. .
