On this day, 96 years ago, WW1 ended. With it being the centenary this year of the start of the war, a lot of displays have been created all over the country. This garden memorial is in the Homestead Park, close to where we live just a mile out of the centre of York.
The signs have examples of war-inspired poetry, including In Flanders' Fields. Some small flower beds were planted so that when they were in bloom, they showed the flags of some of the countries involved. Now that autumn has come, the brightest thing there is, perhaps fittingly, the poppy wreath. - Lucy
The Park have produced a beautiful memorial here - this reconstruction of the trenches is very moving. Your simple treatment is very appropriate, Lucy.
@julieco Thanks Julie, you're right of course! I've edited the description to make it correct. I wonder what will go on in 4 years when it's the centenary of the end of the war! -Lucy
