The city of Liverpool lies on England's west coast, and is a city that we have passed through numerous times when catching the ferry to the Isle of Man. A promotion by the new TransPennine Rail franchise holder allowed Katharine and I to have a day exploring the city at a very modest cost.
This shot was taken from the upper floor of the new Museum of Liverpool, and shows a mix of the old architecture on the right and the more modern architecture on the left. The water channel in the centre is a recent extension to the Leeds - Liverpool canal and takes the canal into Canning Dock, at the heart of what has become a major cultural centre close to the heart of the city.
Many recent buildings are uncompromisingly modern, but somehow the mixture of old and new works well here.
The Museum of Liverpool is one of the recent buildings, and inside it has a fascinating display of various aspects of life in Liverpool.
Close by is the Maritime Museum, and the Museum of International Slavery, both housed in what were once warehouses beside Albert Dock.
A long and exhausting day, but Liverpool is a city with so much to see and enjoy.
Thank you all for your comments and favs, they are all appreciated.
Since Liverpool was European Capital of Culture in 2008, much has happened to enhance the city, and there is a lot to see and do. It's certainly a city I would like to visit again before too long. We hope that you enjoy this mini series of what we found.
