Voyager by fishers

Voyager

In addition to the scale model of the solar system, posted yesterday, there are models of two spacecraft at 1/3 scale. This one is Voyager 1 and is slightly further from the Sun than Pluto on the cycleway.

In August 2012 the real Voyager 1 became the first man-made object to enter inter-stellar space. After launch in 1977 it first passed Jupiter and Saturn on it's marathon journey. It will take 40,000 years to encounter the next star.

The real Voyager 1 weighs 773 kilograms and the main body of the space craft is about the size of a small car. The longest boom is 13 metres long.

@shannejw @seattlite @carolmw @pyrrhula @stevepam Thank you all for your comments, they are appreciated. I really need to visit other parts of the cycle route to get shots of some of it's other features.
