This is a shot from a few weeks ago when I visited Lucy, but it is a scene that has now become history. For over 40 years the HST has provided intercity rail services between London Paddington and Bristol, South Wales and the South West of England. With the new timetable which started yesterday there are now no scheduled HST services from Paddington.
So, this shot shows a HST power car (43170) surrounded by the nose cones of it's replacements, the IEP train.
Both of us used this service, Richard extensively, when we lived in Swindon. Whilst I’m saddened to see this...no progress, no future. Bite the bullet time, again.
Thank you all for your comments and fav, they are very much appreciated.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not against updating our railways, and there is a need to update the fleet, but for me the HST has been involved in so many travel plans over the last 40 years that I will miss it. The HST is still in use on the East Coast route through York for a few more months, and others have been updated to comply with disability legislation that comes into effect at the year end and will continue to work on a few cross country services and are being introduced in Scotland on seven cities routes.
