The heather on Spaunton Moor, north of Hutton le Hole on the North York Moors, is home to a variety of wildlife. Although maintained primarily for grouse, there are also a variety of butterflies and other insects. While the heather is in flower, beekeepers bring their hives and the moor becomes almost alive with thousands of honey bees.
Here is a Peacock butterfly that I found close to Spaunton Lodge, resting on one of the areas of heather still in bloom.
Thank you all for your lovely comments and favs, which put this shot on the Popular Page.
Butterflies are such attractive and varied creatures, and a joy to try and take photos of.
