This shot was taken in St Georges Chapel, looking towards the nave of the cathedral. This chapel commemorates the York and Lancaster Regiment. It is furnished with regiment flags and a screen made up of the bayonets and swords of the first regiment.
It was part of the new building in the early / mid 20th century following the creation of the diocese of Sheffield and the elevation of a parish church to a cathedral, and the work needed to adapt it for its new role.
Much of the 20th century building is unashamedly modern, but the mix of old and new structures in the building works really well.
This has resonance for me...so a heartfelt thank you. I was born in Sheffield in April 1950 and my parents moved to the Isle of Man...one of your favoured places...later that year. Aunts, uncles, cousins...and occasionally Uncle Tom Cobbley et alia...found their way to the Isle of Man and a different way of life with beautiful scenery, coastline and people 'without side'. Nonetheless, Sheffield was my birthplace and I've spent happy times there with our extended family. Am delighted to see it featured in the FF photo-keep ;-). Thank you.
@s4sayer Thank you Margo, both Katharine and I were born in South Yorkshire, Katharine in Sheffield and me in Rotherham. We both visit regularly since we both have an elderly parent in the area, but we don't often get chance to explore and take photos.

Thank you all for your comments and favs, they are very much appreciated.
Cassablanca, I suspect the kneelers represents a regimental colour, since the crest on the kneelers is a regimental crest.
