Friday afternoon, close to the end of a walk, I dropped down from the moorland of Ainthorpe Rigg into the village of Ainthorpe, in Eskdale, North York Moors. This is a lovely place to stop for a rest on one of the benches, before the final 1 1/2 miles to the Danby Moors Centre and a bus back home, after another thoroughly enjoyable day walking.
The village of Ainthorpe consists of an older village around a village green, and a mode modern village straggling along a road below the old village.
This shot is taken from the village green, over some of the more recent houses and across Eskdale towards the woodland of Danby Park.
Such a nice view. Your bus services must be so much better than in NZ. Do you own a car? Here we would be thoroughly stuck if we didn’t have private transport.
@dide I don't own a car, and I never learned to drive, so public transport is the only option. Rail services from York are really good, but bus services, especially to rural areas, have declined drastically in recent years. In the summer months we do have a bus to the North York Moors which runs as part of the Moorsbus network. This is run by a small group of people who do massive fundraising each year to help keep the service running at a reasonable price. Without it many rural communities would be inaccessible.
@peadar Peter, I don't know that part of Yorkshire very well, but I can recommend a visit to the Piece Hall in Halifax, and Shibden Hall just east of Halifax. I've done a lot of walking in Calderdale too. Heptonstall and Hebden Bridge are both interesting and attractive Calderdale villages. I hope you enjoy exploring!

Thank you all for your lovely comments and favs, which put this shot on the Popular Page.
This shot was taken only about 2 miles from another recent view of the Esk Valley - http://365project.org/fishers/365/2019-08-30
