A Mystery

St George's Field car park lies between the River Ouse and the River Foss, an it is one of the first areas flooded when the River Ouse rises.

The mystery is that when a flood event occurs there is at least one vehicle left to the flood water. I don't remember ever seeing a flood with the car park clear of vehicles. Occasionally there is more than one vehicle, but usually just one. I wonder why?

Do you remember when the RSPCA was there? It flooded every year and that’s why Chester came to live a long life of luxury with my neighbour.

it's amazing isn't it - maybe the owner wanted a new car on insurance?

Oh dear. Maybe they forgot they had it?

Always a shocking sight, isn’t it? You have to wonder where the owners are....

Pity to see a car like this covered with water. Maybe the owner got stone drunk the night before and slept throughout the storm.

Thank you all for your lovely comments, they are very much appreciated!

Thank you too for your suggestions why the car might be there. I understand from a friend that the car was caught by the flood the week before this shot was taken. He got a shot of it then.

There is a proposal to build a multi story car park on this site, with access to the site from the road being to the first level. The ground level would still be used for parking but could be closed further in advance of the flood arriving, in the hope that such damage to vehicles could be avoided.

@jesika2

Yes, I remember that. Sadly, when they moved to Landing Lane they didn't escape the flooding.
