Although Barley Hall has been closed since the start of the year, it is still possible to have a look inside.
I included this paragraph yesterday in the history: "By the seventeenth century it was almost certainly divided up into several smaller dwellings with the result that the 'screens passage' - an internal corridor - came to be used as a public short-cut through from Stonegate to Swinegate. It remains a public right-of-way through the heart of Master Snawsell's house!"
Well, this is the view into the Great Hall of Barley Hall from that public right of way. The north-east wall of the passage is a large glass screen, making the interior visible. There can't be many places where a right of way exists through a building and it is still regularly used!
As well as the regular recreation of past life here, there are occasional special exhibitions. One of the very popular ones was a costume display featuring a range of film costumes of the appropriate period.
Another display which was rather gruesome in places was 'Life, sickness and death in the Middle Ages'. Although parts of it were not pleasant, it did give an interesting insight into life in those times.
I hope that you like this glimpse into the Great Hall. The whole building reopens tomorrow (Monday 17th May) as restrictions are further relaxed.

Thank you all for your lovely comments and favs, they are very much appreciated.
The hall is in this shot set up for a meal, and there are replicas of the type of food once eaten. It is quite a different menu to what we enjoy now!

Thank you Vesna. It is a fascinating museum to explore.
