This locomotive avoided the attentions of my camera for a very long time. I eventually got a few shots on the North York Moors in March 2017 and a few weeks later in York. I caught up with it again in 2019, and was pleased to hear it would be visiting York on December 15th this year, so a good opportunity for more photos.
Here it is approaching platform 10 at York railway station. Platform 10 is a good platform for static shots, but getting a shot of it's approach is a bit of a challenge with the forest of electrification masts in the way, but I was fortunate enough to get this shot.
This isn't the original Royal Scot locomotive. In 1933 the LMS was invited to send a locomotive and train to the Century of Progress International Exposition in Chicago, USA.It was decided to send an engine of the Royal Scot class, and one was selected that was due for general overhaul. The identity of this locomotive was 6152 The Kings Dragoon Guardsman. The overhauled locomotive assumed the identity of 6100 Royal Scot with (on its return from the USA) an enlarged nameplate with details of its appearance at the exhibition. It retained this identity after its return from the USA. Whilst in America the engine went on an 11,194 mile tour of North America including crossing the Rockies. The original Royal Scot assumed the number and name 6152 The King's Dragoon Guardsman, and the swap of identities was permanent.
Royal Scot is due for a boiler overhaul, so it is unlikely that I will be getting more photos of it working, perhaps for several years.
Thank you all for your lovely comments and favs, they are very much appreciated.
It was fun getting these steam locomotive shots over such a short period. It is likely to be some weeks before there are more steam locomotives at work in York.
