A closer look at the lighting in the Merchant Taylors Hall in York.
It would be interesting to see how these electric candles compare with real candles. However their use is a small concession to modernity to make the building more practical to use.
The Company of Merchant Taylors in the City of York was incorporated by Royal Charter granted by King Charles II on 26th April 1662 but the Company traces its origins back to the three medieval guilds of tailors, drapers and hosiers.
The modern day Company exists as a Charity dedicated to the preservation of its ancient Hall and the provision of grants to needy young people from the City to assist in their pursuit of the arts, music and traditional crafts.
Although mainly used as a meeting place for the Company to carry out its business, the Hall is now used to host a variety of events including weddings, dinners and conferences.
The title is taken from the song Lola by the Kinks (there I go, showing my age!)
Thank you all for your lovely comments, they are very much appreciated.
I do think this hall would make a great setting for any special event.

Thank you Pat. There were several candelabras, and they added a lot to the attractiveness of the hall interior.
