In an attempt to encourage visitors to York to look at more of the city centre than just the area around the Christmas market, the York Bid team have created a Nutcracker trail, with a series of 10 nutcracker figures spread around the city.
The trail is aimed at children, but with prizes large enough to encourage parents to want to take part. There is a map available from the visitor centre, and the aim is to find and collect the names of each of the nutcrackers, put them on the form that comes with the map and submit it to the visitor centre.
They are all the same design, but in two colour schemes, so this collage has one of each. Sadly, within a few days of the trail being launched, one nutcracker had been thrown in the river and another had been stolen. Both were replaced quite quicklt, and when I went to see some of them, they were firmly chained in place!
The red one on the left can be found near the National Trust shop in Goodramgate. The white one on the right can be found in Library Square. The trail is available until 6th January.
How can people be so negative in life to vandalize a project like this! Lovely pictures and nutcrackers. Shame they had to be chained to avoid a repeat.
Thank you all for your lovely comments and favs, they are very much appreciated.
I was very impressed by the speed of the replacement of the nutcrackers that were stolen and thrown in the river. It seems to be an incident that hasn't been repeated since.
