Taken on Boxing Day evening, this is the first time for quite a while that I've taken a shot of the moon, and is one of the more successful crescent shots. I was quite surprised by this, since it was taken with the camera hand held.
I like the way the sunlight casts shadows in the craters close to the dark part of the moon, nicely highlighting the rugged landscape.
Lovely shot. I noticed it here too. It seems to come round so quickly.
I read that 2023: is a year of 13 full moons.... not sure if that's right/different??
Thank you all for your lovely comments and favs, they are very much appreciated.
This cooler time of year is ideal for this type of shot, with less atmospheric disturbance. After all the rain in the days leading up to the shot have cleared the air of dust as well. This was the first time that I've used my current camera to take shots of the moon, and I was pleased with the result.
Good question Sarah. It seems that 2 years in three have 12 full moons, while 1 in three have 13 full moons. This is to allow for the 29.5 day time between full moons, with 12 taking slightly less than a year.
