Sitting on a bench on York city walls, I watched the antics of this magpie, perched on the walls and with part of Walmgate Bar in the background. Each time someone walked past he would fly away, only to return to the same spot after they had passed. Quite what was so special about this spot I don't know. All he would see from there is the busy traffic on the road below.

I'm not sure why this magpie liked that view so much - the main feature visible would have been the traffic on a very busy road. The view behind the magpie would have been more interesting last summer, when archaeologists were carrying out excavations on the site of a former elderly peoples home.
