The forget-me-not is an attractive little flower and usually appears in clusters like these. Such small flowers are not always easy to spot, but are actually fairly common, at least in our area.
There is a lovely piece of Christian folk law to explain how it got its name "One day, God was walking in the Garden of Eden. He saw a blue flower and asked it its name. The flower was a shy flower and whispered that he had forgotten his name. God renamed the flower as forget-me-not saying that He will not forget the flower."
More recently the forget-me-not has been used as the symbol of the Alzheimer's Society, and is a very appropriate choice. Alzheimers is a cruel disease which strips away much of what makes someone the person that they were. To not be recognised by your nearest and dearest is a difficult thing to bear.
We have recently been affected twice by Alzheimers. It was what Katharine's dad suffered with when he died last year, and recently a neighbour has been taken into a care home and is now on end of life care.
In the UK one in five of those between the ages of 85 and 90 are sufferers, though to be more positive, there have been recent successes with improving diagnosis and treatment, so hopefully it will become much less of a problem within a few years.
A beautiful shot of this pretty little flower and good lore story on its name.
I agree, Alzheimers is such a cruel illness. My mom had it and seeing her memories fade away was so hard.
Thank you all for your lovely comments and favs, they are very much appreciated.
It has been lovely recently to enjoy the sunnier weather and take photos of flowers, both wild and cultivated, on my local walks. I'm looking forwards as the summer progresses to make a few longer journeys and walks, and make a few new discoveries!
This was on Bruni`s last pic.

It is with sadness I read of Bruni’s passing February 25. Altho I haven’t been on 365 for a few years I will always remember Bruni’s wonderful photography, love of nature and love for her family. RIP

Thank you for that Ferry, I hadn't seen it. Very sad news, Bruni was a keen supporter of 365 and to many people on this site.
