The Clifton area of York has a network of walkways between buildings linking the area around the Green to local facilities and to the city centre.
This path links the health centre and a large housing estate to the small shopping area in Clifton. It is a far quieter way to get there than the two alternative very busy roads, but sadly it doesn't look very inviting. The light green growth on the left covers a security fence built onto the wall, which itself is about 6ft (1.8 metres) high, and the fence on the right is a security fence as well. Walking into a dark area like that along the path isn't welcoming at all, even though the darkness is created by the shade of some rather attractive trees overhanging the path.
It would be interesting to know how well used what should be a great community asset is, and how many walk beside the busy roads instead.
Thank you all for your interesting comments, they are very much appreciated.
The path is about 0.2 miles (0.3 km) long and has a couple of bends along the way. There is lighting along it, but as far as I know no CCTV. It gives an interesting view of the rear of a number of properties, but it does feel a bit intimidating starting to walk along it. There have been unpleasant incidents along there, but as far as I can tell it isn't seen as a major issue. It is a path that I don't need to use very often, though many of the other paths in the area I use quite often.

It has a lovely arch of trees over it and leads to the rear of shops, with a short tunnel to get to the front of the shops.
