The North Yorkshire Moors have the ruins of many religious houses. They all seem to be beautiful locations, although I suspect in Winter they could be rather grim.
Rievaulx has extensive ruins and is one of our favourite places to visit. The ruins never fail to impress and give a sense of wonder that someone had a vision and oversaw its building. Ian has posted many of the beautiful carvings and other views during our project.
There are many lovely memories of family trips to Rievaulx, seeing an exhibition of Birds of Prey soaring above the ruins and trees. The Sealed Knot re-enacting the visit of a cardinal.
The cafe is well worth a visit too. A favourite end of walk place,of many, who travel on the Moors bus. I can recommend the Fruit Tealoaf and Wensleydale cheese.
A wonderful capture of what must have been a sumptuous building. Who would not love to discover it and even more to try the cafe?
I'd love to try the Fruit Tealoaf and Wensleydale cheese.
Thank you for all your comments and favs. I appreciate them all. There would have been several churches on this site. A small one initially as the monks settled there. Later larger ones as the Abbey grew and became wealthy.

Thank you, it is a remarkable building, and must have been even more so before it was abandoned.

Thank you Vesna, it is a lovely place to explore!
