Down From The Hayloft by glimpses

Down From The Hayloft

For over a century, many a heavy boot made the trip up and down these solid, steep steps to the loft. This picture speaks volumes to me, and ignites my imagination. How about you??
This picture tells a story. The worn down steps are wonderful. Great shot.

Wonderful shot. The colors, POV and lighting is perfect. Plus I just love barns.

Oh yes, I can just sense the history in those steps, the work that has been carried out over them, and the people who got to know each creak in each step over time.

Looks well used. Great shot and detail.

Very nice shot. An unusual perspective but a great idea to shoot downstairs not upstairs. I can smell the hay and the horses!

You can almost feel the presence of all those who have used those steps

Great photo - it feels like you are about to fall down the stairs - well I probably would as I am not good with stairs!

@denisedaly Hey Denise, thanks so much for checking in. Happy weekend, Les

@maggie2 Hello Maggie, and thanks so much. I have to say that I really love this shot; there's just so much in it. Kind of funny though, I had to keep returning to that spot every 15 minutes or so (for 2 hours!) until the sun came around to light up the the place. It was hot as heck and the humidity was just gross, but you know how it is, you tough it out or do whacky things for a good shot. It was, of course, well worth it. This is one of those rare photos where I was able to capture the feeling of the enviroment; (or maybe I'm just biased!) You would LOVE this old place; it's dreamy, magical, and echoes of the past are in every nook and cranny. Happy weekend, Les

@deens Much appreciated, Nadine, thanks. I was in that barn for hours, visiting with the horses as they wandered in and out, as well as photographing. I couldn't tear myself away. Nadine, it was as if I was immersed in a whole other life and time. It was dreamy and tranquil , and filled with echoes of bygone days. All of my senses were alive to what was around me; the occassional snort of a horse, the smell of dust, and hay, and manure, the feel of the sun as it flooded in the barn door, the cloud of powdery dust that rose from a horse when given a hearty pat. I only wish I could tell you more, but it would take a dozen pages at least. And how very insightful of you to mention the creak in the steps: it was the 4th one up! Happy weekend to you and yours, Les

@mwarren365 Thanks Mike - I'm just glad I'm not the one who made the stairs so worn :p) Happy weekend, Les

@ralfb Hi Ralf, nice to hear from you. Thanks, and yes, the barn did have an array of wonderful smells, including dusty hay. It was just a shot that was waiting to be taken; glad I was there. Auf Wiedersehen, Les

@mjmaven Oh, you couldn't be more accurate. I spent hours in that barn, (with the horses wandering in and out) and it was easy to imagine the activity and people of days gone by. Have a great weekend, Les

@nicolecampbell Hi Nicole; it's always a pleasure when you check in. This was a picture just begging to be taken, so I complied. No, I didn't take a "header" down the stairs, (by gum, they were steep! You say you have a little trouble with stairs - I wouldn't let you within a mile of these LOL) but I did get eaten alive by horseflies! It was worth anything to get this shot, and the others I liked from my visit there (even if I did leave there looking like I had chicken pox LOL) Hopw everyone is having a great weekend, Les
