Conflagration  by graemestevens

Conflagration

It's been so long since I've set something on fire - at least 2 weeks! These lily's keep popping up in the garden and personally I don't like them, so it seemed like as good an opportunity as any to get the lighter out. If all the other flowers in the garden witnessed this then I hope they take it on board as a valuable lesson about where, when and how to bloom in presence. I shall be watching and insubordination will not be tolerated.
Best viewed against the black if you have the time.
that's so effective - fav

I am sure they say good things about you!!! but then again maybe not! The colours and details of the flames are really impressive. good one
August 19th, 2014
lol..cool, another pyromaniac like me
August 19th, 2014
hahahahaha...love it!
August 19th, 2014
@shannejw Thank you very much - always appreciated. I have to admit I was more interested in the warmth than anything else today!
@pinkpaintpot Thanks very much - they'd better be saying good things about me. I can see them all gathered in a circle at the back of the garden now...I might go and eaves drop ;)
@jayberg Thanks very much - I love a good fire for all the wrong reasons ;)
August 19th, 2014
@olivieto Thank you very much - this is why I'm not allowed to bring flowers home.
August 19th, 2014
@graemestevens perhaps not , the neighbours may be watching
August 19th, 2014
@pinkpaintpot They're always watching - I'm starting to think that they're concerned for me
August 19th, 2014
Very cool technique. Looks fantastic. Looks great on the black background, at least the part I can see. Ignore the neighbors!
August 19th, 2014
@kt8ird Thanks very much - I think they're used to the odd flash of flame and explosion now anyway
August 19th, 2014
Cool shot.
August 19th, 2014
Sam
Do you put petrol on them first?
August 19th, 2014
@ukandie1 Thanks very much
August 19th, 2014
@gigiflower I did - I took a leaf out of the Book of @vignouse and used petrol this time. It worked really well as the lily filled with fuel and then went "woompha!" I liked it a lot. :)
August 19th, 2014
Sam
@graemestevens Magnificent!!! I like the word "woompha"
August 19th, 2014
well a few things came to mind when I saw this - some I won't divulge but the word phallic comes to mind - oops - I don't dislike flowers but I must say this treatment works very well and does suit these lilies - nice job!
August 19th, 2014
@gigiflower It's exactly the sound it made. Someone was walking past the fence out on the footpath when I set it alight as well...I think my not so muttered expletive caught them off guard. Either that or there's an echo in our neighborhood that I was unaware of until today.
August 19th, 2014
@annied There is a certain phallic quality in them...I think I'd be going to straight to the doctor at the first sign of flames or burning though.
Do you smoke after sex?
I don't know, I've never looked...
:)
August 19th, 2014
@graemestevens *eyes raised* but still LOL
August 19th, 2014
@annied I'm sure if I rushed into the doctors surgery to complain that my lily was on fire more than eye brows would be raised. I'm not sure how I could explain the charred patch on my jeans either.
August 19th, 2014
@gigiflower @graemestevens
can you have a conflagration of woomphas? I think you can because I like both words a great deal
August 19th, 2014
@annied @gigiflower You can now. If we say it, then it is so.
August 19th, 2014
@graemestevens I will add it to my lexicon
August 19th, 2014
@annied Indubitably
August 19th, 2014
Sam
August 19th, 2014
You a crazy man. But I love it
August 19th, 2014
@gigiflower @annied There's nothing in the least little bit imaginary about me ;) I figure if you're going to say we're god then I should fan the flames of religious outrage a little bit as well.
August 19th, 2014
@pittcj17 Thanks very much :)
August 19th, 2014
@graemestevens @gigiflower ha ha I will refrain - except to say we are rather special!
August 19th, 2014
Sam
@graemestevens @annied You can fan what flames takes your fancy Mr Stevens - it's your page :)
August 19th, 2014
@gigiflower @annied so now you want me to burn my computer?
August 19th, 2014
An unusual shot and very creative. Your love of fire is leading to some terrific images.
August 19th, 2014
@taffy Thank you very much indeed :)
August 19th, 2014
Sam
@graemestevens If you do, please take a photo!
August 19th, 2014
@graemestevens @gigiflower
or you could just fanny and flounce about in your tutu
August 19th, 2014
@annied @gigiflower I think I'd rather fanny and flounce thanks
August 19th, 2014
Flower from hell. Cool shot!
August 19th, 2014
@graemestevens I knew you would HAHAHAHAHA
August 19th, 2014
i quite like the contrasts here...
August 19th, 2014
@eyeamlisa Thanks very much :)
@brigette Thanks - I was quite pleased with it as well for a change!
@annied Never turn down an opportunity to flounce.
August 19th, 2014
Good color contrasts!
August 19th, 2014
Hmmm. I like lilies - they are one of my favorites. So I probably wouldn't burn them. However, with that said, I think this looks pretty cool. I like the distinct outline of the flame. Nicely caught!
August 19th, 2014
Great capture of the flames, shame about the lilies :-)
August 19th, 2014
Nice to see you warmed the flowers. I'm sure they were chilly as your nipples were recently.
August 19th, 2014
@rajan Thanks very much - I was quite pleased with this one as well for a change
@tabarlett Thank you very much - I was quite surprised when I downloaded the shots
@hermann LOL, there is no shame in burning lillies :)
@voiceprintz They did look quite chilly...I only had their welfare in mind...
August 19th, 2014
Perhaps the neighbors are concerned about themselves and their flammable stuff! :-)
August 19th, 2014
Phew for a while I was wondering if your matches had been confiscated.
August 19th, 2014
very cool shot.
August 19th, 2014
@trinda They'll never stop me! MWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
@chippy1402 Not at all...bizarrely enough I'd forgotten to burn anything...
@andrewkru Thanks very much :)
August 19th, 2014
Sue
Oh fabulous, but shame you don't like the lilies.;-)
August 19th, 2014
@sioux Thanks very much - if it helps, I like them like this :)
August 19th, 2014
Saw the flames and said, hmmm....must be Graeme. You find such unique uses for fire!
August 19th, 2014
@aecasey Thanks very much - I'm still trying to work out how set myself on fire for a photo. I've had my hand on fire but I really want to "do" my head...somehow
August 19th, 2014
Very effective & as always I enjoyed your description! Those flowers are totally scared now, lol
August 19th, 2014
@susale Thank you very much, and they should be :)
August 19th, 2014
well done !
August 19th, 2014
@cocobella Thank you very much
August 19th, 2014
Looks like a lily? Quite vicious? Very good shot with the black background.
August 19th, 2014
@neatz It was a lily...and thanks very much
August 19th, 2014
I love it when you set something on fire, Fav!
August 19th, 2014
Love the way you capture such bright colours in the flames.
August 19th, 2014
@ounooi Thank you so much :)
@pusspup Thanks very much - turns out petrol is better than I thought!
August 19th, 2014
@graemestevens @gigiflower I saw this in the early hours of this morning but didn't have time to comment then: as soon as I saw it, I knew that you had used petrol. It makes a nice image because it's the rising vapour above the object that burns, making it look as though the flames have been superimposed and giving a 3D effect.

When I did it, it went WOOMPH - no echo here obviously but you have to be damned quick to capture the image as it burns away quickly... I just kept my finger on the shutter button and chose the best of the 20 or so shots in post-production.

And finally, awesome image - as usual.
August 19th, 2014
giving Death the finger?
August 19th, 2014
Yet another of your amazing captures! Love it!
Didn't notice I wasn't before, but as of now I am also following your project! :)
August 19th, 2014
Sue
You must have been a bugger of a kid! Nice one.
August 19th, 2014
Wonderful image
August 19th, 2014
Were they feeling the cold then?
August 19th, 2014
I'm glad I don't live anywhere near you as you're now lighting petrol filled flowers but it's makes a great shot
August 19th, 2014
oh no, how could you?!?!?!? hahaha! yes, these do come up like weeds, all over where you do not want them! Very creative way of getting rid of them!
August 19th, 2014
@vignouse Thanks very much - I did notice that I had to be remarkably quick...and I'm not usually
@kali66 LOL, absolutely. He can try all he wants but he'll never take me alive...oh wait...
@lilminimonka Thank you very much...and for the follow. I apologise now if at some point I make you violently ill or suspect about about my sanity :))
@redpants Thanks very much. According to parents...yes, very much so :)
@dougapic Thank you very much
@ceilidh I think so, and they would only look silly in blankets
@wearing0 LOL, thanks very much - my neighbours are constantly on edge
August 19th, 2014
@lynnilou How could I? With a match and some petrol :) And thank you so much :)
August 19th, 2014
Parallel sparks! :). Lovely shot, except from the flower's point of view.
August 19th, 2014
Very cool, quite concerned about your pyromaniac tendencies but loving it equally :-)
August 19th, 2014
As long as this is all your lighting up. Hope you're still doing well with the other. Hope so. Given you the get your butt out the gutter prep talk already if not. Anyways moving on....
August 19th, 2014
@rosiekerr Thanks very much - I couldn't care less what the flower thinks... ;)
@roseolivia Thanks very much - no need to be concerned. I have a hose ;)
@newbank This is all I'm lighting up. there have been temptations by my will of iron remains strong.
August 19th, 2014
Good good on you Mr iron will.
August 19th, 2014
@annied @gigiflower @graemestevens Whoompa Whoompa, Whoompa. Love it. Love the conflagration. So stunning on black. @cocobella Well done, or medium rare?
August 19th, 2014
fab shot Graeme.....i agree...an iron fist keeps the mob inline....
August 19th, 2014
@newbank I know...feeling horrifically self righteous
@bill_fe Thanks very much - looking for other things to set fire to now. Where's @gigiflower?
@tellefella Thank you very much
August 20th, 2014
I do fear that beautiful Calla Lilies were actually harmed in this shot... but I must say... it was worth the brutality ;) I've got a burning project brewing myself... Hope to light my project up with it very soon!
August 20th, 2014
@lisatown They were definitely harmed. Definitely. But in my defence they were asking for it. Looking forward to seeing yours now...
August 20th, 2014
Wonderful shot! Inspiring as I am about to go camping and now am just remembering to bring my tripod for fire shots!
August 21st, 2014
@jess1204 Thanks very much - we're not going camping again until January but it seems the perfect time for fire shots...have fun!
August 22nd, 2014
Scared the hell out of me in thumbnail.Thought you were burning ducks at the stake! Lol.I love this,though.Such a cool juxtaposition .fav
August 22nd, 2014
@mzzhope Hmmm...now there's a photo idea...and thank you so much :)
August 22nd, 2014
There go those flames again! I think I missed them....hahaha!
August 22nd, 2014
@harbie I know I did!!!
August 22nd, 2014
Awesomeness!!
August 22nd, 2014
@livvy Thanks again :)
August 22nd, 2014
Great shot, but I don't think I should show this to my husband - it might give him ideas. Left to his own devices he would rip out all the flowerbeds and just have an enormous lawn. I can't leave him in the garden unsupervised for too long, especially when he gets out the power tools.
August 23rd, 2014
@dh Thanks very much - I love my garden, just not these, so there's no danger of too much damage...sounds like you have your hands full though!
August 23rd, 2014
It’s what I’ve always suspected… flowers are dangerous!
August 28th, 2014
@bankmann I believe you may be right - the less of them the better!
