From the Beginning

Our assignment for Flash of Red this week is to take a photo from early in our project and use some of the editing skills we have learned this month to change it. Then, if we dare, to post it side by side. The photo on the left is the very first one I posted on 365 in July of 2011. Not only did I lighten, desaturate, sharpen and clarify it but putting it into this collage is also a skill I didn't have when I first started. Actually, posting anything on line was a skill I didn't have until after I started here.
Wow, this turned out great. Love it in B&W. I cannot get back to my old photos but will see what I can do to join in. We have all learned so much. FAV

Maybe I'll pick an old photo tomorrow. Remember the days when you dropped your film off and picked up your prints. Kind of loved that processing...LOL what a time saver

They look quite hard in the B&W and more uniform in shade!

The detail is so much better. How clever!

so interesting how b&w changes things. I agree that they look quite solid in b&W

The berries have so much more impact after your processing. This is a fun exercise looking at the old image and seeing how we can improve it in B & W.

This is fascinating! Nice B&W processing and nice diptych (I don't think I knew that word when I started this project!) It is neat to look back and realize how much we've learned--and not just about photography. . . .

I am glad to see your before and after shot! It really puts things into perspective. The light shows off so much better in bnw. Glad you are learning things. I am learning so much and so blessed to be part of this :)

Wow, what a difference! Perfectly shows how much you've learnt. The b&w version is really fabulous - with so much clarity and depth.

Such a difference. The new one shows more of a point of view which you have probably developed since you started.

@dyanstevens Thank you so much for that enthusiasm, Dyan.
@annied Using contrast to sharpen and image is a wonderful tool. Thanks Annie.
@kandkids Thanks Karen! I am sure that would be fine.
@lesip I do remember that but you had to take what someone else though was good. I like having the control.
@maggiemae They do. The color version defiinitely makes it easier to see which ones are ripe!
@daisyditch I love that you are so easily impressed! ;~} Thanks Daisy!
@francoise sometimes for the good and sometimes not! Our goal is to figure out which to use and when!

Good for you Katy! And as the old commercial used to say (but I don't endorse the product) "You've come a long way baby!"
February 23rd, 2016
I think it pops more in B&W!
