3.32 pm: I took a walk in the Groenesteeg cemetery this afternoon. It was founded in 1813 but they stopped burying people there in 1976 and now it's in use as a lovely quiet little park. The old tombstones, sculptures, crucifixes and cast iron fences are still there - very Gothic looking.
I love graveyards, and this is a really nice one, I some how just assumed that everywhere in Europe, the cemeteries would look the same as they do in Austria, but this one looks more like one we'd find here. In Austria, it was all wrought iron markers. I learn so much on 365. Nice lighting and POV. :-)
@caatjeg@smallenburg Het is daar prachtig maar het is zo'n plek die heel moeilijk op de foto te zetten is - gisteren nog eens extra vanwege het felle licht.
@geertje Leiden heeft heel veel prachtige plekken!
@5unflow3r Is "wrought iron" the same as "cast iron"? Being married to a European you probably know that Europe is very diverse! I'd say that there aren't much similarities between Austria and the Netherlands - completely different landscape, architecture and national character :)
I love this on so many levels---the cemetery setting, the light, that little piece of flare on the second stone. Thank you for your nice words on my photo!
@halkia So true..I'd forgotten about the huge cemetery in Vienna, Zentral, I think it's called, which was not all cast iron, and was different from both the Tyrolean ones and yours. There someone has to pay for you to remain there, and then after so many years, your remains are moved from Zentral to somewhere else. I thought that that was so odd. They let Beethoven stay though, and there was a nice monument for Mozart, who is somewhere else in a pauper's grave.
