Had to go to the dentist in Fleetwood today so took a detour round to the beach & saw this little boat coming in with some fishermen coming in with their haul. They had enjoyed them selves & had quite a good catch. You can see the Lake District mountains in the background. When I was young Fleetwood was a major fishing port with a thriving fishing fleet & it is very sad to see how this country has let down our fishing industry, there are no commercial boats going out of Fleetwood harbour as far as I know now. Quotas ,discard etc has been the ruin of them.
I suppose these are recreational fishermen - such a shame that an industry that was busy all round the coast on a small scale has been pretty much wiped out. They have got to do something about the big farming ships that just empty the sea for miles - it's the equivalent of burning down rainforests. Greed not need...
Such a wonderful shot, Pat. But very sad commentary on the fishing industry. It's tough for small businesses to compete with so many regulations and compliance issues.
It is sad to see the decline in the fishing industry and how it has impoverished the coastal communities where it was a major industry. It is hard to know what other living can be had there save tourism - which is so unreliable given our weather.

Last time we went to Blackpool (2005), we got the tram to Fleetwood, I was surprised by how derelict and run down it was as a town.
My parents said they used to get a ferry to the isle of man from Fleetwood.
