I think almost every room in my house has a book case & I think for me personally a house without books is a house with no heart.
When ever I go to some one else's house I am drawn to the book case & have a good nosy at what taste in books they have!! I do try & do it discreetly !!!!!
The weather is windy & wet so I thought you could all have a good nosy at some of my books !!! Now I have my Kindle I must say I haven't bought a book for some time !! This book case is in one of the B&B rooms.
Funny Pat - I do the same thing. It's always interesting to see what others are reading. We are getting ready to downsize and sell our house in the next year so I recently went through my bookshelves and donated boxes and boxes of books to the local library's used book sale. It was a very difficult thing to do! This looks like a cozy room in your B&B.
Awww how i love books!!!
But, it 's become very seldom nowadays( In earlier times, a large bookcase with lots of books could be also treated as a symbol of prosperity, and now....uff(
I guess that Kindle will rule in the end . . but I have yet to buy one. Love holding that book in my hand. I am like a "kid in a candy shop" whenever I'm in a library!! That said, your display here is wonderful and somehow so comforting. Nothing like a great book . . and yes, I do like to look at what others are reading too. We're two of a kind, Pat! lol
@karenann Yes I still like a book in my hand & get books from the library but for reading at night when the other half wants the light out you can't beat a Kindle with a light !!!!! Only one draw back & that's that I find you can't just refresh your memory by flicking back through the pages the same !! That is unless some one else has found different & knows something I don't !!
@barbsmith Thank you Barb ! I have been going through mine & put some in a box & some B&B'ers came & took them away to sell for a charity so that was great !!
I can relate to both you and Barb @barbsmith. I've been a bibliophile since birth. :) Before we downsized in our move from suburban Atlanta to urban Charlotte (with less than a third of our former living space) I had more books than a small library. It was VERY difficult to part with most of my beloved books. But I did keep some of my favorites. And although I never thought I'd like a Kindle, since my daughter gave me one last Christmas I'd now feel lost without it. I can download anything in 30 seconds. I have a library that I can fit in my purse. Technology is a wonderful thing for small space living. :)
@happypat yes, i also ment earlier it was a sign more good taste, more "fashion", etc.... I agree, it's so nice to have them, to read books made of paper, not on screen, to read in bed, to touch the pages, to feel their smell....)))
@peggysirk Yes technology is a wonderful thing Peggy & I can't get used to the speed you can buy a book off Amazon & you can be reading it 2 minutes later !!!!!
Amen to all you say about books! I can't imagine life without them and they've been my constant companions since I first learnt to read. You look to have an interesting selection of books here - I wish I could come and browse your other bookshelves!
Wow - looks like my appartment, too ;). When I was asked in an interview what I would do with 1000 dollars that I had to spend right away and couldn't give to charity I said I would buy so many books that I could build a castle around myself and then read for a week inside of it ;)!
BOOKS :o) :o) :o) I'm a book-a-holic. My entire spare room is lined on 2 walls with floor to ceiling books. Fiction, non-fiction, maps, picture books, travel books you name it. There are some familiar looking spines in this shot - seriously - if I buy many more I WILL have to move house to accommodate them all!
@murnane I do like it Marg but doesn't replace that feel of holding a book in your hand !! Saying that I wouldn't like to be without one now as they are so handy & you can order a book in one minute & be reading it the next !! you can get free samples which surprisingly are quite long & then if you like ,one click & you carry on reading ! The books are cheaper & as I said it's nice to have a light to read by in the night without putting your bedside light on !! great for travelling of course & just pop it in your bag !! they have just bought out a cheaper version here priced at £89 GBP , this one has no keypad on the kindle itself but the keyboard comes up on the screen . The only thing I find is that you can't flick back easily to refresh yourself on characters or plots !! You really have to remember the plot each time you pick it up !!! I think they are worth every penny ...perhaps a Christmas present ????
Fabulous photo - tells so much! Love how you have piece of the comfy easy chair in the shot next to books. And magnifying I can browse the books. Wonderful concept and we have tons of books everywhere too. I refuse to read on Kindle or whatever you call those things. Even in my practice I try to read cases in books and not on-line.
Always check out people's bookshelves. Love books and always have to be reading something, I thought I wouldn't like the Kindle, but I have found it absolutely fantastic.
