In the year of the Preston Guild which is held every 20 years I thought I would show you two of the fantastic stone plaques depicting the different trades of Preston.
These plaques were originally on the old Preston Town Hall which burnt down 60 years ago.
The powers that be were so stupid in those days they demolished the remains & built a hideous glass concrete monstrosity in it's place.
Even worse our son in laws father was walking past at the time & saw them breaking up these wonderful plaques & managed to save five of them which he incorporated into his stone house which he was extending at the time.
They look very beautiful sixty years later & he is very glad he was in the right place at the right time!
Well done to the saviour! It's sickening the way these wonderful old objects get tossed away without a second thought. Love your green leaves creating a frame.
These are extraordinary ... your son-in-law's father was a genius! Totally love this beautiful piece of architectural art! WOW. Great capture and pov, Pat!!
Wow...what a save!! This and the other plaque you photographed are amazing!!! What gorgeous additions to your daughter's in-laws' home. So beautiful and unique!
I'll show my mum this - I was just thinking I'd never seen it and then read on! Good for him!! Was just thinking about you with the Spice Girls taxis - reminded me of Blackpool illuminations!
@judithg Oh thanks Judith but wasn't too impressed with the Spice girls were you ? In fact didn't know much of the music although everyone seemed to be singing along! The models were a waste of time & Kate Moss looked terrible !!! Ah well perhaps we are getting a little blase with all this terrific television! Loved the skating nuns & the John Lennon bit I enjoyed & I did think Jesse J did well.
@happypat Some of it was a completely mystery - what was that tightrope bit?! Adam says Twitter was trending something about Danny Boyle reminding everybody that he only did the OPENING ceremony! Looked beautiful at the start but went a bit bonkers - there dead people were brilliant though!
Beautiful!
