A quiet calm autumn day so no wind to blow our flag.
Been checking out freezers & laptops at Currys this morning. The freezer is on the blink & I would like to buy a handy laptop to take with us to NZ at Christmas.
A want one that is reasonably priced, neat in size & able to upload my photos. Looking at one of the Acer Aspire range with Windows 8. Anyone any thoughts?
Three good things:
1. I seem to have got my mojo back re 365 !
2. Finished all the backlog of ironing so can watch Strictly with a clear conscience!
3. Talked to both our sons in the last couple of days so we are up with all their news.
Love your three things. Can't help you with the laptop but it'd be a good thing to have while you are away. We are also having a nice autumn day - sunny and crisp. Love the sun on the flag.
Your outlook is better than ours.torrential rain and hail storms!! and a bit of sun, bizarre! Lovely shot...I am also getting a laptop as my pc is getting slower than me!! My IT girl reckons Toshiba or HP, would love a mac but soooooooo expensive!!
@fannyb I looked at Apple Macs but they are very expensive & this old computer of mine works very well so just need one for while we are away really. O the other hand it would be good to have a complete rest from the pressures of the outside world!!!
@fannyb No Fanny the ipad doesn't upload your photos from your camera or card only from Facebook or your computer, well thats what the guy at Currys said & I already have a Kindle. I thought the Kindle Fire would be ideal but no good either as that doesnt upload either!
A really lovely composition. Bright and fresh.
I have a lenovo laptop which I have taken with me on all our trips for the last three years. It measures 10 x 7 inches. and fits in my hand handbag. I wouldn't be without it now.
Lovely composition, Pat! My husband talked to a computer repairman last week .... and this man said that Acer makes a great computer. I don't know about the model that you want tho. So hard to make these decisions nowadays. Good luck!
I have an iPad and John has bought me an adapter that allows the camera to download on to it! But I can't download on to 365 from it! Great to take around - you can get lots of games to download which are fun! I love scrabble!
@maggiemae I was told today that I couldnt download onto 365 from an ipod which is exactly what I would like to do so that sounds right if you say that too.I have friends son ringing me tomorrow who is very knowledgeable about these things so will be interested to hear what he has to say! An ipad is perfect if it would work as I love the size. Thanks Maggiemae.
@jtookey150 Just checked out Lenover laptops & they look great. What model have you got Jean if you don't mind me asking as the ones I looked at all had 15.6 screens so yours must be smaller than that.
I was about to buy an iPad, but was also told my EVERYONE I talked to that the iPad will shrink your photos and not let you get the original size back. I shoot in RAW and jpeg and it is important to me that I can have the whole file back once I am home for enlarging, editing, etc. So iPad is out for me. If you only want to load up to FB, 365 blog, etcc, then it is fine. My mini HP laptop was only used 2 years but it got soooo slooooowwww! I didn't store anything on it at all, but could hardly get onto the internet, FB, 365...all that I used it for was to upload to view my photos and back them up until I got home. So also, I have been advised not to go with the mini one...they told me 15.6.
It looks like a glorious October day in this shot! So good to see you back, Pat! Hope you had a marvelous time on your girlfriend trip!
I can tell you that I love my compact HP Pavilion laptop PC ~ so user friendly and a perfect size to take along on trips. It's only 2 inches (5 cm) bigger than my iPad...and incredibly simple to download, edit and store photos. I love it and when this one decides quit, I plan to get another one. From what others are saying, it sounds like you can upload and edit photos on an iPad...but I haven't figured out how to do that. I sometimes feel I need to have an IT geek on retainer to keep up with technology. :)
@peggysirk Thanks so much Peggy. I have done lots of research today & have pretty much decided on the HP Pavillion DM1-4300SA. It seems to fit all my needs....very light , Dual core with enough memory etc plus widows 8 & the right price. Its not available until the 26th October so new out. I am just waiting to talk to my friends son to get the OK from him when he rings later. I did consider the Mac Air but sounds rather complicated at my time of life.
@peggysirk Glad it's not just me Peggy - I didn't know you cold do that with an iPad either!! @phil_howcroft is absolutely right about the screen - I can't see photos at all well on Nigel's little Notebook but the HP sounds just the job. And as an extra plus you can watch Strictly and do 365 at the same time. I draw the line at Downton - that requires full attention!
Haha, advice on laptops. You should have a nice long list soon. I iwll add that the Dell XPS laptops that we have are superb, though big and bulky. The Sony Vaio is super sleek, and what I would go for if I needed a new one, Glad your Mojo has returned. Mine has gone walkabout today :))
As for choice of laptop, set a budget and just go for the one that you like best and fits in with that budget.
With you being a photographer the quality of the screen display is important and get as much 'memory' (memory not hard disk size) that you can
