Kirkby Lonsdale Auction Mart today with my neighbour Anne.
I was looking for a small handy table to accommodate two people for breakfast. I had my eye on a lovely little Victorian table with a tilting top which would have been ideal. I had my bidding number 655 in hand but someone had been to the viewing the day before & put £100 on it........looking back I should have said £105 & might have secured it as they obviously weren't there, could have kicked myself after but everything happens so fast!!
I bought a nice rug which I am pleased with & Anne bought a wood & brass coal scuttle with a little shovel in the back.
I took this photo after the main auction was over & most people had gone away. We had eaten our lunch & were there to pick up our goods.
A quick look round the shops & back home.
Three good things:
1. A great day out with a friend.
2. A good bargain !
3. I tried on a jacket I have ordered on line & didn't like it so know it has to go back before it has even arrived!
ha ha love number 3 how many times does that happen!!! My favourite pastime the auction room, I am addicted but have had to stop this year! I left a bid last year on a gorgeous coffee table, won my bid went to pick it up and had put the wrong lot number on the paper I had won a po cupboard!! ha ha too funny, a friend did the same at another auction and won 30 pictures instead of a a chair!! Shame about your table though!!
Auctions are fun if you're watching someone else biding but can be quite stressful if you're in the bidding yourself. We have a small one here in St. Neots, biu all the good stuff gets snapped up by the dealers.
Kirby has been renamed Kelly Lonsdale in our family since the Kelly dynasty uprouted from Longton to live there. Self made millionaires from digging holes! The auction sounds fun. I made a similar gaff on ebay this week.
@fannyb Oh so easy to do....I didn't actually know whether I had got the rug because I had shaken my head & looked away but Ann felt sure he said to the lady on the left, had to wait till after lunch to see !!!
I would have been very put out to find I had secured a hideous wardrobe!!

I am very pleased with my rug I must say...one of those oriental type rugs with velvet sort of pile in a soft rose shade.
@maggiemae Went in a shop that sold the same one maggiemae so tried it on..the other is being delivered tomorrow so will get it out & try again. I have seen one twice as expensive in a local shop made by same people & of course I LOVE that one !!!!
@phil_howcroft No these are sle items...lots of random chairs & you could pick them up for pounds Phil!!! Sets of four dining chairs going for £40 ..nice ones too!!
NIce light and atmosphere and all the different chairs! We use dto love doing a bit of bidding - makes the heart pump! Might have to go again to get a table to go with the new chairs in the kitchen - no putting cups on the arms! Bad news on the jacket - I have a Boden purchase going back - shiny wool in it - not what I was expecting.
@judithg Oh no I don't like shiny!!!!! I sent for two of their crinkle jersey shirts while the 20% discount was on last week. My jacket is a Barbour...I have had my other for years so am ready for a change, trying to get Cathy to have the old one!!!! Fairly pricey but last for ever, suit my lifestyle & you can just throw them on....the one i like the best is the most expensive of course...sods law!!!
Bidding certainly makes the heart pump...so must be good for you , must do more!!!!!
Such a wonderful shot, Pat. Looks like some fabulous pieces were up for auction. So sorry you lost out on the table, but I'm sure you will come across one you love even more at some point. Your #3 good thing is the only bad thing about online shopping. :)
@ellida Yes I think they have been going a long time Graham....2/6d ...wow that was a bargain today but probably expensive in those days!! Going back next month as I still haven't got my table.... terrific place to spend a day & it might be a bit warmer next rime!!!
can't beat a morning at the auction, we have loads of little halls near us. LOL to your jacket...I've just spent the morning at the postoffice taking back a jacket that is too small and a speaker that didn't work!! Sometimes online shopping is so frustrating!

Prince Charles was visiting last Thursday apparently.
