My favourite church in London. Situated on the Strand next to the Royal Courts of Justice
Built by Sir Christopher Wren in 1682 it was bombed very badly during WW2 but rebuilt by the RAF in 1958,
This is the church made famous by the nursery rhyme,'' Oranges & lemons by the bells of St Clements ''.
The floor is of Welsh slate & the badges of over 800 RAF squadrons are depicted on the floor.
The picture on the right is of my dads 9th squadron badge together with my feet.
This is the place where yesterday kneelers are & also the church where Margaret Thatchers body was transferred from hearse to gun carriage last Wednesday.
This was taken from our visit to London last week so a filler I'm afraid but have got behind doing my house photos...hope you don't mind!
Three good things:
1. Had a lie in before all next weeks breakfasts at 6am!
2. Max likes his new clothes I sent him & they fit.
3. My jeans are slacker!!!
Now I can see how this must be one of your favourites --What a beautiful interior & you have chosen a delightful POV - looking down the length to the Altar and having sights of the beautiful ceiling Also being able to stop a moment at your Dad's 9th squadron replica badge -- glad to see well polished shoes !!!
Lovely shoes (obviously what they say about red shoes can't possibly apply in your case :0)). And I love that floor - just beautifully done. Is it Catholic? It looks quite ornate to be C of E and yet the galleries look Methodist....
@judithg Oh my goodness what do they say about red shoes...you have me worried now hehe!! Anglican Judith & rather ornate I agree with lots of gold leaf.
Had a word with Lydia & she was very interested in your offer of maybe work placement but would think it would only be possible in your schools term time. Could you find out what dates the school is open, she obviously is tied to school term although might be flexible for a day or two after her exams.
Cathy & I would have a little holiday & stay at a B&B in Cambridge , it would be lovely!! We could meet up for a coffee, how exciting!!!
All in your hands Judith& it might not be possible at all but if your school is willing it would be a tremendous opportunity. Thank you anyway for even suggesting it!!
@happypat We finish on the 23rd July which I think may be later than northern schools (we always dashed off on holiday straight away to avoid the southerners!) I'll drop into the Unit on Tuesday when I go it to do reading and ask what the procedure is. I was going to say she could stay with us but now you've suggested all coming down that sounds splendid - you won't get away with just a coffee!! If she wanted to come for longer than you two though she's welcome to our spare room.
@judithg You are so kind Judith & never thought of even troubling you with an extra mouth to feed...it will be wonderful if I could get for a look round Cambridge!! I have a feeling Lydia brakes up at a similar time as we were checking for holidays but exams will be over then so might be possible! Will see what comes up! x
Privilege to see such a beautiful church and know that it is used so much! This is a great photo of it! Breakfast at 6am?? You are so good - my earliest was 7.30! You have to get up earlier of course to set it up! Great to see a close up of the badge!
@maggiemae Will set it night before but he only wants cereal & toast but gets up at 6am but doesn't go till 8am!!! He wants flasks filling & instead of cooked breakfast I make him sandwiches........Reg grooves cement where the cattle walk on farms!
@barbsmith I have lost 4 lbs in two weeks Barb & it does make a difference...i am really in the zone now & only 3lbs more to lose...will be staying that weight will be harder!!
So beautiful and such a rich history. Love the very special shot of you standing by your father's squadron badge.
I suspect that little Max is as cute as a bug in the clothes you sent him! Were they mini Boden outfits? Cutest clothes ever!
And good for you with your WW results! Well done!!
l I always have a soft spot for this place Sean, thanks & we miss you!!
