I was struggling to find a photo today & had just uploaded a filler when there was a knock on the door & my photo came to me!
These are some of the children who live down our lane. two at number 1 & two from number 11 for any of you who followed my lane series. The first house & the last which of course are opposite each other.
They were selling crisps & sweets, I didn't ask who was getting the money but they were enjoying themselves immensely!
three good things:
1. A lovely catch up with Cathy & Garth over sausage butties!
2. More visitors this afternoon, I love people popping in!
3. Half a coffee renoir!
Mmmm sweets, sausage butties and coffee Renoir - my perfect feast! Love this photo - our kids used to love setting up little stalls at the front. Adam realised his childhood dream (almost) today because he got to work the till - almost because they have account cards and so he couldn't ping out the money drawer and count out change. He just grins when he tells us about it though - so funny as he was shop mad as a little boy!
@judithg Just thought Judith are you old enough to remember Lingards on Fishergate, the end near the train station?
Our school uniform & I think yours too if I remember rightly had to be purchased her & they had an incredible system of an overhead track with a metal container. The shop assistant used to put the money..( no cards then of course) in the container & send it whizzing along the track to the accounts office & then then the change used to come back the same way!! Your mention of Adam & the till reminded me!
Oh dear what year was I born in!!!!!!
Oh yes I remember Lingards but I don't think they had the money tube - but having said that I have seen one in a shop somewhere so maybe it was there. And after purchasing brown knickers we moved on to Tom Finney's for our green flash trainers so that dad could go all star struck and shake hands even though he never ever watches football! Uniform shopping was never boring!
@judithg no it was quite an event ...all serge dresses that could only be washed every odd weekend , we must have stunk!!! Panama hats that hadn't to be worn in the rain else they went in a point, gloves on in the street & certainly no chatting to the college boys!! Between you & @fueast I have had an excellent reminisce tonight!
@happypat felt hats for us with elastic and the boys on the bus used to pull them up and then let them go. And crimpoline pinafores with nylon blouses so that the static was terrible!
@judithg@happypat I was lucky in that my school hat was a hand-me-down. The girls who had new navy felt hats had the dye wash out when it rained - a real bad hair day if you were blonde!
@lucypics Well I think i would have liked painted stones actually Lucy so your buyers would be very pleased , you never know one might be a treasured stone on display somewhere!
@maggiemae Oh my ...a coffee renoir is a gorgeous concoction of choux pastry bun filled with confectioner custard & with thick coffee icing on the top...absolutely delicious!!!
