Carting the straw. by happypat

Carting the straw.

Over the last couple of days they have been carting all the large bales of straw left in the fields after the combining.
This straw is used for feed & bedding during the long winter months when the cattle are inside.

Our little lane only just lets the loaded trailer through into the farmyard.

Three good things:
1. The quiet before the rush this weekend ...no B&B in tonight!
2. Location, Location one of my favourite TV programmes on later.
3. Our eldest son rang up for a chat this morning with all the news, he has a bit more time now they have practically finished calving over 600 cows.
Great pictures! Wonderful agricultural shots!

Jo
Such a typical English scene, lovely shot, though I'm sure if I was stuck behind it I wouldn't be quite so happy!!

Hope you made a wish when that tractor went past. I always wish that the bales won't fall on us! I'm watching Location and then Educating Yorkshire is on and that looks funny. Can't believe how little you get for £414k in London - madness!! 600 calves - they must be shattered!

Love all the golden hues against the green fields. There is always such a good feeling of accomplishment when the hay and straw is put away.
Nice shots.

@judithg They started calving mid July Judith & on the last lap now. They block calve in NZ as most of the milk is exported as milk powder or similar whereas here we need a liquid market so have to have more staggered calving to provide an all round supply. It means that in NZ they get most of the hardest work done by Christmas which is the middle of the summer. Just nice time for the beach etc!!
Sometimes Brian & William will have up 15 calving in one night, you can imagine the sorting out of mums & calves that is!!
