Loads more blackberries today...I wore my glasses so could see them better .
This is a hedge I used to blackberry on when we had the cows & I used to go with my little blackberrying pot when I got the cows up for milking. As the cows ambled up the track I put a few blackberries in the tin.
Just about the only free thing we get in this day & age.
Three good things:
1. I noticed lots of elderberries while I was picking so will gather some of those for wine....never made wine but I'm sure there will be a recipe somewhere!
2. Harry has been putting cow embrocation on his knee so hopeful that it will work wonders!
It says on the bottle...Battles Embrocation...a traditional white oil formulation to use on all livestock...will report on it's performance!
3. I have ordered an electric blanket!
@snowy Oh yummy Diana I haven't done anything with mine ye... some will go in the freezer & I will make a pie tomorrow!! Lots more on the hedges still!
Beautiful & mouth-watering -- blackberry & apple *anything * sounds good !!
Hope the Embrocation oil will help Harry's painful knee !! -is it one of those that has a very strong smell to it ?
haha! Just got an electric blanket too! AND a pair of Nike Air-Max (like Mick Jagger apparently) - they are absolute bliss for my arthritic ankle and I am walking normally again when wearing them! Lovely blackberry shot - had blackberry and apple crumble the other day - going after elderberries too - @lucypics says they protect against flu virus so worth a try!
@happypat cordial not wine actually. I think you must avoid the green unripe berries but otherwise should be delicious! I have a friend who takes horse pills for painful joints . . . .
You can make berry stew - pour some sugar and vodka on the berries and let it sit for a couple months - drink the liqueur and put the berries on vanilla ice cream. Oh yum.
I like your collage - very Autumnal. I picked some blackberries today, we have them growing on the allotment. The blackberry vodka sounds good. You can probably find quantities on the internet.
Oh, you and Judith have been busy with your berries - puts me to shame! The vodka recipe sounds right up my street! The only good thing about winter is my electric blanket. Nothing beats the bliss of getting into a warm bed.
How wonderful. We find it very hard to get blackberries now, as they are a noxious weed and have all been poisoned. I have such fond memories of blackberry jam.
LOL! so glad you took your glasses out for a closer look! I always love your 3 things....I love how you make the littlest thing seem so BIG! True joy in life!!!
@judithg knows about elderflower wine - she puts it with gin and that makes it so healthy! Elderberry must be similar! What with @bpaquette recipe for blackberry vodka you lot will be on your backs, cross-eyed! Poor Harry having to resort to cattle cures - surely the chemist has a good answer? I might have to get some of this cattle stuff for John's shoulder!
@maggiemae The recipes sound delicious maggiemae don't they, no problem finding something to do with the fruit...no doubt I will just freeze them as usual! Will report on the medication but no change yet!!
The little pot brought pack so many memories Mum! Brian remembers it being around forever and the children used it for all sorts of things! As soon as i see it I think 'blackberries!'
@floralchick Isn't it funny, I hadn't seen it for ages as I didn't go blackberrying last year. Got quite worried at first when I couldn't see it, would hat e to lose it! I remember going with Will & Alex down the fields at Inglewhite picking blackberries & them putting the fruit into the tin.
Hope the Embrocation oil will help Harry's painful knee !! -is it one of those that has a very strong smell to it ?
