You can now see Preston Council offices in the centre, this also used to be Preston County Court most famous for a murder trial in 1993 concerning two juvenile boys. The new courts are very smart & situated on the Ring road, plenty of recent pictures of those on the news such as Ken Barlow etc!
The building on the right is the Harris Museum housing a a wonderful art gallery, library, museum and cafe where I met @willowdragon .
The whole square is a great gathering spot as you can see with everyone enjoying the sun.
Taken at lunchtime on Monday but my iPad does not show any dates or times unfortunately.
Three good things:
1. Apparently we have Daubenton bats on the banks of the river. I had never heard of them before but the Bat Society are doing a survey over this week.... the bats feed on insects etc & are active thirty minutes before dark. Called river bats! Apparently they can live for 22 years!!
2. I have bought a poppy from the Tower of London WW1 memorial, will be delivered after the 11th November.
3. I have done the ironing!
4. Bake Off starts tonight!
A stunning capture with some great architectural delights A fav -- great good things Pat -- in a rush must take Gary down to the med. centre --has cellulitis in his leg ( believe from a n insect bite ) and the antibiotics have not worked as yet !!
@beryl Oh dear Beryl...the insect bites are bad this year, Lydia has been bitten three times by horseflies & had to have antibiotics each time! Hope Gary is OK soon.
What on earth are parched peas? The mind boggles! I like this style of picture where the buildings stand out and the colour is nicely defined. I would have thought it was HDR but don't know if you would use that! I wonder if we are going to see a bat shot!
@maggiemae parched peas are a famous speciality of Preston maggiemae. The purple pod de pea is used & soaked overnight, simmered slowly & served in brown paper bags with salt & vinegar. Mostly available around Bonfire night but a special treat at fairgrounds etc in the winter. Delicious!
@maggiemae the photo is slightly HDR maggiemae but edited like that not done in camera...not clever enough for that & I always take the easy option! Not quick enough for a bat shot I don't think!
Great shot. Takes me back to my childhood. I lived about 8 miles south of Preston and as a little girl it was always exciting to go there with my Gran and have a meal. I saw my very first concert there. It was David Essex at the Guildhall! 365 is great for helping to bring back happy memories!
@chris17 I agree Christine........big things happening at the Guild Hall, someone has just bought it & has big ideas! They haven't had any one that's any good on for years!
Wonderful architecture. Looks like a very social place. Is Bill Roache in trouble again. He doesn't make the news here. He must be nearly as old as Noah by now. ha ha.
Lovely shot. You're certainly showing Preston off to it's best advantage. I'm in Rome with Edward, so we've recorded Bake Off to watch when we get home.
You and my sister have taken much better photos of Preston with iPad/phone than I did with big camera. Is the tower the council building? We arrived at the Harris too late for the cafe - and then at Bruccianis too late! Looked like a lovely place in a courtyard on Winckley Street for next time though.
This is a lovely shot and makes it look so nice!
We must meet up again soon!!! I wonder if the barge full of spiders will be at Galgate again this year? :)
@willowdragon we could try Al there will be more spiders than ever now! Just let me get this busy time of the holidays over & we will make a date at Galgate.
@happypat my new lens is liking spiders! lol ..... think they were looking interesting in September. We will definitely sort something out when you are not so busy :)
I used to work so near to this Pat, great trip down memory lane
