An old established cafe in Preston which was in existence when I was a girl. Well known in the town particularly for its Italian icecream it serves lunches & teas to a faithful clientele.
Art Deco in design it hasn't changed at all over the years & there will be some 365ers who will remember this place well.
Must admit I haven't been in for years & there are some mixed reviews.
I was in Preston briefly this morning taking Lydia for her train to Manchester.
Three good things:
1. Back to our old routine of Wednesday afternoon cinema....my friend is back from Australia. We went to see Wild....I would not recommend it! I could only make out one third of the words .....a very odd story!
2. A stunning sunset this evening....the days are getting longer!
3. Alex is home safely.
Sounds a lovely establishment --I am sure they make wonderful coffee a well Pat !! So demure in looks to the brashness of the KFC !!
I am sure that you are glad to hear that Alex is home safe and sound after her travels
It's so obliging for people to be coloured coordinated for our shots. The tan jacket picks up the planter colour perfectly. A lovely bright and colourful look to the street. Glad that Alex safely home.
Lovely capture Pat. There used to be a Bruccianis in Morecambe when I was a teenager. We used to congregate there on Saturday afternoons in the summer and eat far too much delicious ice cream!
Gosh the inside of this has changed so much; do you remember when the family lived upstairs? Accessed from the cafe. Malted coffee was my favourite. Haven't been for years but then I don't think I have been to the town when visiting 'home' for years either. Great shot, nice memories, thank you
@claireuk I haven't been in for years Claire but didn't think it had changed all that much inside....they still have all the tiling & Art Deco ......must go & have a proper look next time!
@busylady Well I didn't care for it Judith....they mumbled & there were drug & quite odd sex scenes....not that I am a prude just that they were unexpected!
The pavements are so nice and clean - in some places round the world, they are covered in chewing gum stains - USA for instance. That old guy on the wall - Major Kentucky or whatever his name is - always looks the same - never ages! Wonder chicken perhaps in his diet!
@maggiemae Oh we see lots off gum here maggiemae believe me....all this area has just been repaved with new road surfaces & planted trees etc. not sure if the pavement here was replaced though.
You will have to go in there again and check it out. If it has mixed reviews they can't be as bad as KFC can they.
Got to love Italian ice cream. We used to have a family business near us called Granelli's ice cream when we lived in the UK
Me and my Preston friend Chris are just discussing our review.
Character 8/10
Tea 1/10
Toilets 5/10
Service women 5/10 owner 1/10
1980s teenage clientele 10/10
Sandwiches 3/10
Overall summary: style over substance but fond memories
@fueast Interesting to read your review Alison......I was rather shocked to read the recent ones on their web site I must say! Staff rude & snobby.....what have they got to be snobby about I ask you? I must definitely go & write a full report...ASAP. Thank you for yours....tea sounds rubbish for a start! Love your eighties clientele review! Not biased are you?
Love this! Even the Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant looks rather charming.
I haven't seen Wild. But it seems that people either love it or don't like it at all...no in between.
@peggysirk Well you know which camp I am in Peggy....wouldn't use the hate word mind you. I am due to get my hearing aids on Monday......that could make a difference but my friend thought they mumbled too!
What a charming capture...love old Mr. KC's colorful addition, but the charm is really in the Cafe...love the hand written signage and the people walking by. Just lovely!

I think the shot has good balance as it is, Pat.
