I am always pleased to see milk bottles on the doorstep. The poor old milkman is a beleaguered species these days as more people buy their milk from the supermarket.
I am afraid we are one of those too. I would have loved to get our milk from our local milkman but we never know from day to day how many we are catering for...just the two of us or a houseful of guests. Harry gets ours from the local shop in the village which does come from local source.
Cathy has the milkman call at her house every morning.
A house in Wray near Lancaster.
Three good things:
1. Had my hair cut this afternoon.
2. Meeting friends for a fish & chip supper.
3. I managed to sell all my tickets for the Duck race in April.
A lovely shot of the good old days We always had a milkman until he started to deliver every other day and would deliver on a sat which at one time I would be going up to my mum in Wales when she was poorly , so the milk would be out on the doorstep from the Sat morning until the Sunday evening - advertising to any crook that we were not at home and also in summer it would go off while sitting out in the sun for the two days ! Now I do not think that there is a milkman delivering on the Drive at all .
@beryl the milkman comes down our lane but only daly delivers to house number 7 now, I sometimes feel guilty when I see him but he does seem to have quite a big round ....love milk out of glass bottles. We have never had a milkman as we just got a jug & got it out of the bulk tank in the dairy.
Milkman still delivers to a few houses around here but not ours I'm afraid as it is so much cheaper at the supermarket. This looks great in B&W Pat it was a good choice of subject.

Cool image. We were 'milkmen' and had our own business for years when our kids were little. No home deliveries in this area anymore. We were lucky as we used to deliver to dairies and supermarket in town too.
@thistle have sent it again Joyce...let me know if it hasn't got there.. Going out in ten minutes so will have to check when we get back. I will look at your address again.
Lovely image and suits the Black and white very nicely. We have ours delivered although since Christmas we've been getting plastic containers rather than glass bottles - much to Peter's dismay! I find they fit into the fridge better. I did post a pic of the bottles earlier in the project - covered in snow, and was amazed at the number of comments I got.
My mum loves getting doorstep milk because she loves washing the bottles up all sparkling and clean. Love this shot, well done them for supporting the local milkman.
I remembered the clink of the milk bottles at the gate when I grew up! But that was such a long long time ago! No milkman rounds nowadays. I keep a carton of milk in the freezer for emergency supplies. Hope the sun doesn't get on to these two bottles of milk!
I have just returned to deliveries from my milkman, as concerned for my son in law a diary farmer. My milk comes from St Michaels on wyre which is nice to know it is local.
What a great shot, I haven't seen milk in bottles for years, or seen it delivered to your door either. Couldn't have milk delivered here though, it would go off in no time on the doorstep.
@pinkpaintpot How weird Linda that's where ours comes from too. They are the local farmers we are talking about Alan Swale is his name....I didn't know their milk reached up to your way! Good for you for supporting dairy farming!
It is a lovely scene. I put one in an art exam once with a blue tit pecking through the lid. We don't use the milkman either - we did but the milk wasn't very fresh and kept going off by the next day. I do buy it from await rose though which promises a fair price.
