Kirkham by happypat

Kirkham

I have been wrestling with my online banking system today. I had to ring up the help line & of course got a very nice young man but I couldn't make out half of what he was telling me! He had lots of patience & we went through all the steps to re register.
Thought I had got it all clear & my first attempt wasn't accepted, I tried again twice & was blocked again. Rang agIn & she was talking about mobile banking, online banking in the end I just said sorry I had had enough & I was changing banks.
I am not very computer literate but didn't think I was as bad as that!
There never is enough spaces when they ask you to put in second letter & then second to last letter etc etc I do it three times then I get blocked!

They have closed our local branch so I can't get up to the minute bank transactions.
I went to Kirkham to put some cheques in & low & behold that branch is closing on the 6th November!
I give up.....what happened to the helpful counter staff in your local town?

This is Kirkham High street taken as I came out of the bank.....a quick shot for the diary. Just one long street with a hill in the middle. I rarely go to Kirkham & will be going even less with no bank!

Three good things:
1. Making war with the NHS who are very lax at settling their B&B accounts....a stiff email!
2. Making war with the flies up stairs in the top bedroom. Cluster flies apparently, half dead. I have used the fly bomb on them & Harry had to clear hundreds of dead flies off the floor.....good job done!
3. Making war on the return of the slugs......salt every where!
You must think we live in a terrible house...it's just old!

I feel better tonight!
A stiff G&T which I promptly knocked over & a full glass went all over the floor!
oh dear Pat what a frustrating day. I am asked and always refuse to use the hole in the walls when there is a teller. hole in the walls do not smile at me

You have had a bad day. I don't do on line banking because of all the stories like this. And the worst thing spilling your gin.. this looks a lovely town like the hanging baskets.

Lovely street shot. It's a pain with all these bank closures. John's local Lloyds closed a couple of weeks ago, so now he has to go into town.

A nice shot --it looks a pleasant little town ! Oh !! Pat , I have heard of calamity Jane !! but you have had a day to match Jane's day any time ! So frustrating when on line banking doesn't do as it's told !! And when you ring through the English of the advisor is hardly recognisable at times !! aaargh !! At least Pat you have put your house in order in more ways than one today . At least you did not knock over your bottle of gin -- so I assume another G&T was in order !! Enjoy a calmer evening !!

You have my sympathy! I've had trouble with online banking too! Glad you've got other things sorted though including another stiff gin I hope. Great shot of Kirkham

Great capture, looks like a lovely place

A frustrating sort of day! A lovely image taken from a nice pov.

That sounds like a frustrating day Pat. Its horrible to see all the banks and post office places being closed in the rural areas. Its the same here I suppose- not in our town so far. I often wonder what elderly people without knowledge of the internet do. Enjoy the rest of the evening with another G&T and a book.
Nice shot

Oh Pat, even the g&t was not being co-operative today!!!

p.s. I just relayed the events of your day to Ray and he said he hopes you have got water now?!

What a brilliant story - it made me laugh. especially the flies and the slugs. I love how your 365 is just about your day and what went right or wrong. Sorry to hear about your problems with the online banking. I've just caught up with yesterday's Bake-off - what a huge challenge to make that Charlotte Russe - and the raised game pie! Wow - I take my hat off to them.

@quietpurplehaze Ha ha yes thank you Ray! We are slowly getting our compensation cheques £60 for us as we were off the longest. It's not to compensate for buying water as they never stopped providing it, it's for the boiling of the kettles!

@rosiekind I have just read that HSBC is closing down lots of its High street banks in preparation for selling their UK side of the business. I will definitely move now!

@beryl Yes I feel satisfied I have got on top of the job today Beryl.......funny even though we are retired there is always some financial thing to sort out

What a frustrating day, Pat. Tomorrow will be better :-)

PS. Forgot to say that we have a friend who lives in Kirkham. We met her when we lived in Canada and we still keep in touch. So nice to see the high street.
September 17th, 2015
@busylady Oh you should have visited her when you came to stay, or perhaps you did!! Small world!
September 17th, 2015
@gijsje Thank you Bep....I know so! We have to experience the frustrations to enjoy the good ones!

Lovely to see the brick pathways and the window boxes! A street with character! We have good people in banks who are so helpful. Online stuff, I leave to John who gets quite stroppy ( I have to leave the room!) We had cluster flies at our last property - 2 storey place and they came back every year. You really have to read up about them to get rid of them at a particular stage of their life! On the windowsills of the guest bedrooms, all over the carpet etc! Now I really would curse about the fallen gin! At least its not you who fell!
September 17th, 2015
Lovely looking place
September 17th, 2015
@maggiemae He he you are right about the flies I have to bomb them every year. It's this time of the year when they are dopey & as you say not a good look for B&B! All gone now & I have two camp beds up,ther tomorrow so,it had to be sorted! I have had a real good clean of the windows so all ship shape! Yes better the glass of gin than me & easy to,poor another glass ...I am awash with gin because of Harry's administrations to the cats, hen, fish!
September 17th, 2015
Oh dear pour not poor....oh for an edit button!
September 17th, 2015
@busylady Those game pies were incredibly tempting, I loved the oval shapes. Yes I do go on about my day a bit so glad to hear you like that part! The family like it! My daughter rang from her car tonight on her way home from work & asked what I had been doing, I said just read 365, saved going into it all when she was tired!

flower troughs are still in fine colour Pat :)
September 17th, 2015
Sounds like you had "one of those days" Pat. Cheques are nearly a thing of the past here - and bank buildings will be too soon by the sound of it. Nice street shot of this colourful town.
September 17th, 2015
Lovely street scene and what a story. You have had such a day. Not so sure about a glass of G&T, I think I would have just gone for the bottle.
I have avoided Internet banking so far, so many people I know have had too many problems with it.
September 17th, 2015
Sounds like a day for warfare on many counts. Wonderful detailed shot with perfect clouds
September 18th, 2015
That's the great ting about online banking, Pat. The security is so great that it keeps out not only the bad guys but the genuine customers too! Kirkham looks such a lovely peaceful place but wars are found everywhere today and the internet does little to stop them. Pity you can't zap those flies and slugs by email, but perhaps Google will come up with an app for it one day!
September 18th, 2015
what a dreadful day Pat. Tomorrow will be much better I hope. I have never heard of cluster flies but they sound awful. We have big tiger slugs that somehow come into the kitchen at night and crawl around the bench leaving a trail that is very hard to get rid of. We cant find where they get in either.
September 18th, 2015
Lol what a day you had! Looks a lovely town.
September 18th, 2015
Nice pov and I like all the pretty hanging baskets.
