Fleetwood to Knot End Ferry crossing this morning. Just short of a mile I would think but this ferry is the life blood of the village of Knot End.
Unfortunately the ferry has just had its government funding withdrawn so it's likely that the ferry will cease to sail in the very near future which is a tragedy.
I have had a really busy day out & about today so posting late tonight.
Dentist in Fleetwood this morning & then the cinema this afternoon to see Bridge of Spies with Tom Hanks. I heartly recommend this film, its unmissable, almost a full house & we were all gripped....go & see it for yourselves!
Out at the garden centre with friends for hot pot supper & mince pies tonight.
Here you can see the ferry crossing, pictured underneath the life boat launch structure.
I've been on this ferry from knot End to Fleetwood and back, I can't believe they are getting rid of this service. Shameful.
I like your POV looking through the structure to frame the ferry, good shot.
@gamelee yes such a shame Lee...it's keeping going for now but the local council will not have the funds to keep it running. It's been suspended before but they n
Managed to get funding but things look black this time. Thank you for your comments.
Great photo and accompanying narrative. I could add so much about government funding being withdrawn but it's best I don't get started! Need to keep my blood pressure in check! :-)
We have ferries still going but they are on the tourist route which is the difference! So there is a lifeboat there ready to save lives! We don't seem to have these round NZ! Just life savers and coastguard.
@maggiemae There were two lifeboats hanging in the air on this gantry plus a smaller dingy type. A winch to lower them into the sea when ever they were needed.
@phil_howcroft Backwards progress Phil. Now I think the next step should be a bridge, that would be progress indeed! I think to travel by car from Knot End to Fleetwood would take a good forty minutes round the estuary & over the nearest bridge so you can see what a bad effect the loss of the ferry would have.
What a shame about the ferry. I really like the look of that film - glad it's good! And I got loads of free cinema tickets when I renewed my membership for our cinema which was half price with our subscription to The Times.
