I have been to Preston today with a friend. We had lunch out & a potter round the shops.
No need to comment on this as we are out tonight so won't have time to comment back.
Three good things:
1. Lovely lunch & a glass of wine.
2. We have been invited to a BBQ tonight to meet some people from NZ so no cooking!
3. I was happy to complain to the HSBC bank today, I am getting stroppy in my old age!
What a lovely sight and full of memories for me . My mother had the village stores (a shop attached to the end of our house ) and my grandmother before Mum had the village shop - selling everything from boot-laces to bacon and eggs ! and of course the front shop window full of sweet jars .
Enjoy the BBQ -I hope it will not rain for you -- we have had a couple light showers this evening !!!!
Good for you --you have sometimes put the world to right when phoning these know - all youngsters !
Do you hink he's going in for his weekly treat of 'humbugs'. Hope the NZ erst were nice .. where did they come from. Those jars would make a great image on there own... worth going back.
Don't think this fellow is going in to this shop! But he looks like he needs too - would bring a smile to his face! Lucky you - so many invites from friends!
@beryl I can just imagine how lovely that would be for you as a child Beryl, your mum always at home & lots of people to chat to! Something about those old sweet shops that knocks spots off today's supermarket offerings! Had a great BBQ thanks but up in the night with indegestion! Buns & burgers don't agree too much these days! My thumb is throbbing too!
Lovely shot, brought back memories for me too. My Mum had a corner grocery shop with the house next to the shop when I was a child. Like Beryl's Mum @beryl we sold everything too and I used to love the colours of the sweets in jars on a shelf.
@newbank Really Ruth, we haven't even had a letter even though they confused us with someone else by sending a some detail of their account!
The head bank in Preston is a vast impersonal space with a few places to pay money in, staff standing at podiums to help but the main paying in area in another vast space with empty booths & a two person staffed counter shoved away in the far corner with a queue! Escalators up but stairs to walk down so not good for the dodgy legend ones! I hate the place!
We were close to moving everything to another bank it was that bad. They decided 3 times in a year fradulent activity was happening and shut the account down and stopped my cards for a week. Most frustrating was every time it was me!! Trying to purchase something more expensive everytime. Once a climbing frame, once a skip and I forget the third.... everytime always more than enough money in account. So frustrating and makes me look so foolish! But even more frustrating, everytime mine got cancelled we straight away still removed money from account through hubbys card!
@newbank It sounds horrendous Ruth & anything to do with money is so stressful, I actuall moved mine to another bank but Harry & our joint account still with HSBC. They are shutting all our local banks too so we have to trek into Preston or Blackpool for the buisness account transactions. Any more nonsense & we're off!
