After all I said about Kirstys dogs being so well behaved unfortunately a dog called Mable that she had only had for two months managed to open the latch on the cage door & escped into the garden & killed our dear Ginger.
We are devastated as you can imagine! How amazing it is to love a simple chicken so much but she was such a character, knew her name & loved being with us in the kitchen. Only an hour before she was killed I had shooed her outside again. One more hour & she would have toddled across the road home.
We made light of it but you have to don't you but even though it wasn't anyone's fault. Poor kirsty was upset & embarrased.
Luckily Amanda & Chris her proper owners across the road were very understanding.
We missed her little face this morning.
I apologise for using this photo again but had to pay tribute to our dear chicken friend.
Three good things:
1. I ordered cinema tickets a live showing of Miss Saigon for this coming Sunday. The order didn't process properly even though the money had gone through. A lovely young man called Kyle sorted it all out today at Vue & the upshot is we have got free tickets & a refund!
2. The Girl on a Train today's film, we enjoyed it but I was glad I'd read the book as it was quite confusing in parts.
3. Central heating.
Aaaw ! Pat --I am so sorry -- poor faithful Ginger -- I feel quite upset myself , but a gorgeous photo of her doing what only Ginger could get away with -- walking on the table and ruling the roost - so to speak , in her own sweet way !! FAV in memory of the dear and innocent little friend !
@beryl Ah thank you Beryl, lovely words for our lovely girl, such a shock but to be honest it would have been a very sudden death for her, she probably died of a heart attack as there were no injuries on her at all. It was doubtful if she would have seen the winter out as she was getting old. Sometimes hens can lose weight etc & take a while to wither away & due so it was better for her I suppose.
@newbank bi don't know about you but I was completely thrown by the very large houses along that railway line! I had in mind an embankment & the backs of very humble houses. Not just the same in New York somehow!
Poor Ginger and how upsetting for Kirstie. My Sister in Law had a chicken that came into the kitchen and we were all very find of it. Her children refused to eat chicken for ages after she died.
Ive had even more of a soft spot for chickens since joining 365 in 2012 and following Lucy Dolittle and her mum Pat, who often put up chicken photos. Poor Ginger, hopefully she didn't know too much about it, what a lovely photo of her, looking as if she is totally the boss. So sorry for your loss Pat.
Poor Ginger she was a great companion to you.. and sounded a bit cheeky.. RIP Ginger..
Heard a review on Girl on the train and said the same thing about being a bit hard to follow.. but still keen to see it.
Birds seem to die more of a heart attack than from injuries I've known. Poor Ginger, poor you - missing here and poor Kirsty! That naughty dog. Our Golden Retrievers would never kill a hen!

Thank you all for your sympathies, all our varied animals on 365 become very important to our projects & it's lovely that we all get to know our friends loved ones even if they are chickens that don't belong to us!
Oh Pat what dreadful news. I missed yesterday's photo because I am on catch up. How awful for you all. You will miss Ginger so much. I will miss your photos of her latest antics too she was quite a character.
